Exit the 210 at Lincoln Ave.
Drive north on Lincoln and turn right onto Loma Alta.
Take the first left and park near the rear of the park.
The trail begins 100 yds up the road on the right.

• Trail UpdateLeave This To The Horses.-I noticed that this trial has not had a real update for quite some time. It's close to my house so I thought I would do some prospecting and report on what I found. There is a lot of development going on up to the National Forest boundry. Access is still available (maybe even better). For some reason I assumed that this was a fireroad. It is 100% single track. This trail is heavily used by our four legged equine friends. Every 100 yards or so I would come by some fresh piles of poo. Also, all of the climbs (and there are a lot of them) are covered with about 3 inches of sand. It was like trying to ride on the beach. I guess the hooves realy tear up the trail. I only noticed 1 set of tire tracks for the entire time I was on the trail. After about 2 miles of this I was pooped. It was hot, I was walking most of the time, and had no desire to go back the way I came. Thank God for Chaney Trail RD (about 1.5 miles from the trail head at Sunset Ridge RD). I bailed out on the Altadena Crest Trail here. Nice 35MPH descent back down to Alta Loma and back up to my car. Don't waste your time with this rototilled trail unless you are really into pain training. I would suggest anyone riding this area hit up Brown Mountain and El Prieto or get an Adventure Pass and try Millard Canyon.

  Saturday, October 8, ACT Trail Maintenance - Join State Parks Trails Superintendent Frank Padilla, for a morning of trail repair on the Altadena Crest Trail, in preparation for the Altadena Crest Trail Day

  Activities. Trail repair will run from 8 to 11 am, followed by a well-deserved lunch. Wear boots, gloves, and long pants. Tools, Water and Lunch to be supplied. Meet at the top of Stonehill Dr at 8 am, to work the trail segment from west of the Gooseberry debris dam to the water tanks (toward Zane Grey). To get to the meet point, drive 4 blocks east of Lake Ave on Altadena Dr. Turn Left onto Porter Ave. Drive to the T at the top of Porter, and turn Left onto E Loma Alta Dr. Take the second Right onto Stonehill and park anywhere. • Trail UpdateAltadena Crest-Altadena Crest is a steep 1.7 mile climb to the Chaney
  Trail parking area, with access to Sam Merrill, Sunset,
  etc.
  The climb is very steep, but not particularly technical. As
  a descent the steep pitch makes it very enjoyable. Just
  watch for horses and hikers.
